elda's On The Beach is almost always packed. The draw is its unique deck built out on the Capitola beachside especially fun in the summertime, eating on the beach, hearing the ocean, and soaking up the sun. You feel like you are having a real vacation-at-the-beach experience, even if you have to get back to work after lunch. It's a lovely spot for breakfast - large, delicious omelets filled with fresh ingredients are the winners. At lunch and dinner, good New England clam chowder and fairly good seafood dishes are offered along with the standard poultry and meat selections. The kids will enjoy the large, juicy burgers. Special lobster dinner on Thursday night ($9.95) is really a deal as is their prime rib special on Friday ($9.95). Zelda's features great desserts from Original Sin bakery. The service is a real drag though. Pretty girls that are left to their charms and not given professional management training that would make all the difference in the world to becoming a first class stop. But bumming away your time is part of the vacation experience. It is a beach restaurant that strives to be better, rather than relying solely on its location to keep people coming back. I used to recommend Zelda's for the setting but not the food. Now I say go, enjoy the view, and have a darned good meal. But service, well that is the American dream.reviewer:Mark Beaulieu 9/24/2003 5:50:00 PM |
