n mid summer Escondido hosts a Cruisin' Grand - a Hot-Rod fest on Grand Street. At 150 Grand you can You dine outdoor and enjoy the rumblings and musings of the automotive styles of yesteryear with some of the better dining in the city. Two dining rooms and a long bar. The table water is unusual because of the cucumber soaking. The menu of American dishes with an Oriental and Indic slant changes weekly. The portions are small and you may leave hungry. Great appetizer of Duck in a Tandori style with Green Papaya ($9). Then a delightful thimble of lemon-grass sorbet before the Lamb Osso Bucco in Saffron glaze with a Merlot. Good European cheese plate to finish it all. The bread is fresh and necessary to eat if you are hungry because the portions are small although delicious. The service is underpowered and the assistance you get is very scattered. Nonetheless, the food is creative and top notch. Opening a restaurant this good in Escondido raised the bar for everyone else in town.
