In the early 1990's the invasion of the coffee franchises began in the city of many coffee houses. While these are not exactly the home to artists and poets with a notebook - they do serve the chemical stimulant. Starbuck's coffee is strong, Spinelli coffee is stronger, and Peet's is the strongest. The Specialty Coffee Association of Los Angeles evaluates $1.5 billion was spent on cappuccino and steamed coffees in 1993. There are 4,000 coffee specialty stores in the U.S. in 1994, and 10,000 by the year 2,000.
